Brookfield Rail has been the manager and operator of Western Australia’s sole open access freight rail network since its privatisation in 2000, providing reliable connections to the eastern states and overseas export markets.

From Monday 15 August Brookfield Rail will add track and civil maintenance activities to the signalling and communications systems maintenance capabilities already internally managed by Brookfield Rail.

General Manager Asset Management & Projects, Paul Lowney said Brookfield Rail had been working closely with John Holland – its partner of almost 20 years – to implement this transition in a safe and considered manner.

“The transition provides genuine career and development opportunities for our current and future employees, and will help future proof Brookfield Rail for long-term growth, expansion and sustained success,” said Mr Lowney.

“This move enables Brookfield Rail to be more adaptable and flexible, as well as have greater control and security over our costs, data, knowledge and intellectual property.

“We firmly believe that insourcing track and civil maintenance will enable Brookfield Rail to focus on improving the way we run our core business – a safe, efficient and reliable railway,” he said.

Brookfield Rail will continue to use external contractors for major project and specialised maintenance work all on the 5,500kms of rail assets throughout Western Australia.
