Brookfield Rail joined West Australian Music (WAM) and its partners to launch the Sounds of the Goldfields compilation CD at a live performance event on Saturday, celebrating the rich vein of musical talent running through the Goldfields.

Held at Goldfields Arts Centre in Kalgoorlie, the launch event saw live performances from all featured artists selected as part of the recording project, as well as an acoustic set from ARIA Award-winning special guests Eskimo Joe.

Sponsored by Brookfield Rail, the project has uncovered songs from a range of artists hailing from the Goldfields region and enabled 10 successful musicians to work in pop-up studios and bring the musical masterpiece to life.

Following the success of past projects across WA, the Sounds of the Goldfields is the newest addition to WAM’s “Sounds of” programs, which provides recording skills development to emerging musicians and skilled audio engineers in remote and regional Western Australia.

Brookfield Rail Manager Corporate Affairs Melanie Henley said she was proud to be a part of this project and witness first-hand at the launch event, the extraordinary talent that exists in the Goldfields.

“The program has uncovered a wealth of talent in the region and we are confident the CD release will launch these artists to audiences in Western Australia and beyond.

“We look forward to seeing bigger and better things from the artists who have been able to participate in this project,” said Ms Henley.

WAM Regional Officer Nigel Bird said they were thrilled Brookfield Rail has offered their support and played an important part in this unique project.

“Regional Western Australia is laden with outstanding songwriters and musicians, and it is through such partnerships that WAM has been able to provide strong opportunities to artists in the Goldfields, and achieve such impressive results," said Mr Bird.

From 43 applications, the artists selected include: Sheridon Jackman (Laverton), Not Without My Band (Ange Leech, Kalgoorlie & Michelle Meehan, Laverton); The Brownley Gospel Singers (Kalgoorlie), Kado Muir (Leonora), Darren Forster (The China Blue Experiment, Kalgoorlie), Tiahn Dillon (Kalgoorlie), The Desert All Stars (Tjuntjuntjarra Community), Ruben Wills (Kambalda), Marcus Maguire (Kalgoorlie) and the winner of the 2015 Kalgoorlie Boulder Youth Open Mic competition, Jennifer Renee (Kalgoorlie).
