Arc Infrastructure's Digital Twin project has been shortlisted for two awards at the upcoming Australasian Rail Industry (ARI) Awards to be held in Melbourne on 14 September 2022.

The ARI Awards recognise and celebrate individual and company achievements in the rail industry, showcasing examples of excellence and innovation to support its growth and success.

The team have been shortlisted for the Rail Innovation of the Year Award and the Freight Rail and Heavy Haul Excellence Award. The Digital Twin project being nominated in two separate categories recognises the incredible work the team has been doing to transform Arc into the rail network of the future.

The Digital Twin is a sophisticated virtual representation of Western Australia's 5,500-kilometre freight rail network infrastructure and assets. The system enables the business to take a consistent approach to asset management decision making, reducing the need for fieldwork inspections and improving the speed at which data is received.

The Digital Twin helps Arc determine what maintenance and renewals are required across the network and assists with planning. The Digital Twin provides our people with access to critical data, from one source of truth.

Arc Infrastructure General Manager Network Strategy and Customer Operations Paul Lowney said the development of the Digital Twin was guided by five core principles.

“The project helps to build trust in data at Arc, facilitate effective stakeholder management, enables process automation where practicable, is fit for purpose and promotes continuous improvement across the freight rail network.

“The development of the Digital Twin represents a major maturity step in Arc's journey to becoming a more data-driven organisation, and we are at the forefront of applying this technology to an Australian rail network,” Mr Lowney said.
