Arc Infrastructure was represented by General Manager Commercial and Development Nathan Speed at the National Level Crossing Safety roundtable held in Brisbane on Wednesday 6 March.
The Roundtable was held in response to the tragic deaths of two Pacific National drivers, Kevin Baker and Mick Warren, on New Year’s Eve, to discuss any further action that could be taken by governments, regulators and industry.
The meeting was one of the first of its kind to bring together both road and rail industry representatives to discuss a more holistic approach to improving level crossing safety, with four key focus areas as per the recently released National Level Crossing Safety Strategy:
- Education and Enforcement
- Assets, Technology and Innovation
- Data Improvement and Knowledge Management
- National Coordination
Mr Speed said that level crossing safety was not exclusively either a road issue or a rail issue, but a problem which needed to be addressed by both industries.
“We welcome this roundtable as the first step towards a national, collaborative approach.
“At the end of the day, everyone deserves to arrive home safely, and we want to contribute to the efforts to improve safety at level crossings.
“We look forward to continuing to work with our industry counterparts and colleagues to progress actions discussed during the roundtable,” Mr Speed said.
