It is Brookfield Rail’s third consecutive year as a team sponsor of the Hawaiian Ride for Youth, however it is the first year the company has also entered a team of employees in the event.

The annual event is the major fundraiser for Youth Focus, which provides free and unlimited mental health services to 12-25 year olds across Western Australia.

Brookfield Rail Team 1, which is made up of CEO Paul Larsen and a further five employees, will begin their journey at John Willcock College in Geraldton, then travel through Morawa, Dalwallinu, New Norcia and Northam before heading to the finish line at Kings Park on Saturday.

The second Brookfield Rail team will begin in Albany and travel to Gnowangerup, Katanning, Narrogin and Mandurah before joining the Midwest and other pelotons for the ride into Kings Park.

Riders on all four pelotons will visit regional schools and communities along the way to discuss mental health and promote the services Youth Focus provides.

Brookfield Rail CEO Paul Larsen said the aim of the school and community presentations was to ensure young people understood where they could get help, and to encourage them to seek that help if they needed to.

“We hope to share the message that it is ok to talk if you are feeling down, and that there are services, such as those offered by Youth Focus, available for young people in regional WA if they do want to talk,” Mr Larsen said.

On the Wheatbelt route, riders will be presenting at schools in Gnowangerup, Katanning and Narrogin. On the Midwest route, riders will present to John Willcock College and Northam Senior High School as well as hosting a community event in Dalwallinu.

Together the Brookfield Rail teams have already raised over $78,000, with the hope of receiving further donations throughout the week of the Ride.

“I encourage everyone to help the teams raise enough funds to ensure Youth Focus can continue to provide these essential services to young people across the State,” Mr Larsen said.
