Arc Infrastructure carried out a range of works along the Eastern Goldfields Railway (EGR) during a 48-hour shutdown over the Easter weekend.

Arc’s Central, Mobile Maintenance, Signalling and Structures and Third-Party Projects Teams, along with Contract Grinding and Surfacing fleets, utilised a shutdown in the east to complete a huge volume of work over the three-day period. Additionally, teams have also carried out pre and post shut works at various points along the EGR, from the Avon Valley to Kellerberrin and upgrades near Merredin.

From 19 – 21 April, crews completed a range of upgrade works, including:
  • Three level crossing upgrades between Bungulla and West Merredin.
  • A culvert replacement at the 137.916km near Grass Valley.
  • Track tamping at various sites between Kellerberrin and Burracoppin.
  • Various tasks completed at the PTA Midland Station Project Site.
  • Four rerail sites in the Avon Valley between Millendon Junction and Moondyne.
  • EGR Signalling Upgrade works between Moondyne and Toodyay West.
  • Rail grinding at various sites between Meckering and Doolakine.
Arc’s General Manager Works Delivery Dan Ellis acknowledged the extensive effort required to plan and execute such a large volume of work over a condensed time period.

“Intense works programs conducted over shutdowns like this require careful planning some six months out, sometimes longer, to ensure all required people, plant and materials are available,” Dan said.

“I’d particularly like to acknowledge and thank those who carried out the works, which fell over the Easter weekend.

“It is great to see the sheer volume and quality of work that can be achieved in a short amount of time, and most importantly, it being executed safely.”
