Arc Infrastructure marked the annual Rail R U OK? Day today, a joint initiative of national harm prevention charities – the TrackSAFE Foundation and R U OK? A staff event was held at Arc’s Head Office, with regional areas holding similar get togethers over the coming weeks.
This year, Arc supported the ‘Ask R U OK? Any Day’ theme by arranging representatives from our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provider BSS Psychology to visit Arc locations across the network.
Rail R U OK? is a movement that aims to empower rail workers to identify the signs that someone might not be OK and offer guidance on how to support them, any day of the year.
Arc recognised the importance of checking in with friends, colleagues and loved ones any day with the implementation of our Track Mates program last year.
In 2024, Arc launched Track Mates to provide a peer led support program to encourage people to seek help if they are struggling. The first of Arc’s Track Mates completed training with Lifeline and have attended a series of upskilling sessions across the year.
In addition to the Track Mates program, Arc was proud to have implemented as part of our Mentally Healthy Workplace Initiative, an educational program in collaboration with Lifeline WA. These training sessions for our people focus on raising awareness of mental health and wellbeing, supporting yourself, supporting others and identifying and managing psychological risks.
Since 2022 the initiative’s education component has seen the following:
- 12 Psychological Safety in the Workplace courses have been held, with 76% of Leaders in the business having completed that course.
- There have been 27 Supporting Yourself and Others sessions held, with 44% of our remaining workforce undertaking that training course.
General Manager People, Governance and Risk, Jess Tiwade said she was proud of how the business has built our mental wellbeing support base and provided our people with an additional way to have important conversations with safe people, who can direct them to critical services which provide longer term support.
“The Mentally Healthy Workplace Initiative aims to prevent harm, promote healthy practices and protect the overall psychological and physical wellbeing of our people,” Jess said.
“Rail R U OK? Day Is a good opportunity for us to remind our workforce of the supports we have in place such as our EAP BSS Psychology and Track Mates.”
“We hope the EAP presentations increase awareness of how the professional and experienced counsellors at BSS Psychology can provide independent, confidential support to staff and dependent family members at no cost to employees.”
If you or someone you know is having a difficult time, there are supports available. No one needs to face their problems alone.
