Arc Infrastructure is proud to announce our membership to CEOs for Gender Equity (CGE), a Western Australian based, for-purpose organisation dedicated to accelerating gender equity outcomes.

CGE provides a platform for leaders to take meaningful action on gender equity by engaging with peers, leveraging research-backed strategies, and committing to measurable change that drives real progress.

Arc believes in driving meaningful change through more inclusive and authentic collaboration, which our CGE membership will help facilitate.

Acting Chief Executive Officer Nathan Speed shared Arc’s CGE membership with the business at an International Women’s Day event held at Arc’s Head Office earlier this week. Staff were fortunate to also hear from Ashley McGrath, Chief Executive Officer of CEOs for Gender Equity.

Reflecting on Arc’s journey to joining CGE, Nathan said that while both Arc and the broader rail industry have made progress in terms of the level of representation across gender groups, there was still significant room for improvement and a need for ongoing commitments to a more equitable workforce.

“As the operator of the freight rail network in Western Australia, Arc and the broader rail industry we are a part of, have a long and rich history of which we are incredibly proud. However, in having as long a history as we do sometimes you can be slow to change,” Nathan said.

“Specifically, we still have an under-representation of women in our workforce and a gender pay gap of 21.7%. In order to address these issues we need a clear strategy and commitment to change.

“It may take time, but we are committed to doing what we can to change attitudes and practices, because everyone deserves the same opportunities. By joining CGE we are taking a big step forward towards improving gender equity in our business, by becoming part of a powerful network of leaders dedicated to real and raw conversations, sharing insights, and focusing on solutions that drive tangible progress in these areas.

“If we fail to embrace gender equity in our organisation, then we will continue to deny ourselves the value that this brings. The evidence for this is overwhelming with research consistently showing that organisations with a more equitable workforce benefit from higher employee engagement, increased productivity, higher returns, better employee retention and improved brand reputation.

“Committing ourselves to gender equity is an investment in the future of our business.”
