A contingent of Arc Infrastructure employees travelled to Sydney to attend the biennial Freight Rail Conference organised by the Australasian Railway Association in April.
One of the themes of the conference was industry collaboration, as well as innovation.
The keynote speaker was Linfox CEO Mark Mazurek who spoke on the topic of freight customer priorities. Other presenters included Pacific National Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer Saskia Groen-in’t-woud, and CEO and Co-founder of Parallel Systems Matt Soule.
Arc’s Head of People Sam Crowford took part in a panel discussion on “Building the workforce of tomorrow for modern supply chains”.
Sam spoke to the importance of education and building pathways for future rail workers.
The Arc team spoke highly of the quality of the speakers, which provided learning opportunities and transferable knowledge applicable to their day-to-day roles.
Head of Development Simon Gilders, who also spoke in a session about the
Hiivr Rail autonomous wagon project, said he’d enjoyed the focus on safety and innovation on the second day.
To coincide with the conference, several Arc representatives engaged with other supply chain industry representatives regarding the Hiivr autonomous wagon.
“Arc Infrastructure will continue to look for opportunities to commercialise the Hiivr Rail concept as we progress with achieving our ONRSR accreditation for mainline trials, and integrating the wagon with our Network Control system,” Simon said.
The technical team working on Hiivr Rail are hoping to receive an accreditation for running mainline trials before the end of the year.
