This newly launched website will function as a hub of information for anyone looking to learn more about the Hiivr Rail autonomous wagon project, and its progress towards deployment.
Hiivr Rail is the exciting name Arc gave the autonomous wagon and its real-world application in the WA context, which was
unveiled at an event last year.
Designed with the future Westport in mind, the Hiivr Rail concept would see containers move directly from a vessel to a future network of intermodal freight terminals and be available to customers within hours of being unloaded from the vessel.
Hiivr’s autonomous wagon leverages self-driving technology that is already being used all over the world and tailors it to the rail environment.
As well as launching the new website, the Hiivr team is about to commence the first phase of integration works on the project, developing software to allow communication between the Hiivr wagon and Arc’s Train Control System.
In May the Hiivr team travelled to Los Angeles where they spent a week working closely with our technology partner, Parallel Systems, work on technological solutions for the integration of the wagon with Arc’s existing train control system. While there our team also worked with Parallel Systems to identify requirements for the next version of the wagon.
Head of Development Jenn Schokhoff said she was pleased with the progress made so far.
“Our Technology team has been working closely with Parallel Systems to identify the best approach to undertaking the integration project.
“Their hard work at this stage will be critical as we move towards future deployments of the wagon onto the rail network.”
Arc continues to work closely with the Office of National Rail Safety Regulator on appropriate accreditation pathways that will allow us to undertake mainline trials of the wagon.
