The installation of off grid solar power supplies for signalling assets at Koolyanobbing, Lake Julia and Koolyanobbing East have recently been completed. The works will improve the reliability of the signalling infrastructure and enhance Arc’s environmental credentials.

Prior to the installation of the solar panels, the signalling equipment received power from a single high voltage overhead power line owned and operated by Arc Infrastructure.

The solar panel installation also included the installation of batteries, which supply enough back-up power to run the signalling operations for several days in the event that the solar panels become non-operational.

The installation of solar panels aligns with Arc Infrastructure's sustainability strategy which identifies a goal of achieving a net zero emission position.

The overall project included the installation of more than 100 panels across six locations as well as back-up battery storage for the signalling equipment rooms. This included the installation of solar panels at level crossings.

The project is part of Arc Infrastructure’s broader project to upgrade signalling and power assets from Northam to Koolyanobbing on the line Eastern Goldfields Railway (EGR) line.
