Arc Infrastructure recently completed its annual maintenance of the Rottnest Island Railway, as part of our ongoing commitment to preserving this historically significant West Australian asset.

For more than 15 years Arc has undertaken maintenance works, annually since 2019, on the island’s popular tourist railway, which provides a link between the military heritage sites of Kingstown Barracks and Oliver Hill.

Eight members from Arc’s Central Track team 1 and a welder from the Goldfields region, were based at Wadjemup / Rottnest Island for a week in mid-October to complete the works.

This year’s scope of work included refurbishment on No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 points, supply and installation of more than 200 new sleepers and ballast renewal.

Arc Infrastructure’s General Manager Works Delivery Dan Ellis said Arc’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Rottnest Island Authority (RIA) to maintain the railway was a project the business was proud to be involved with.

“While the Rottnest Railway is not part of Arc’s rail network, our expertise and equipment make Arc uniquely placed to assist in the ongoing maintenance of this special piece of Australian rail history.

“In addition to our track team and welder who completed the work, I’d also like to acknowledge our planning team, as the logistics of arranging works like this come with added challenges in getting staff, equipment and materials to an island,” Dan said.

The RIA generously hosted Arc track workers, staff from our Head Office and representatives from the Rottnest Island Rail Administration Committee for lunch and a tour of Oliver Hill following a site inspection of the recently completed works.
