Arc Infrastructure is proud to once again take part in Rail Safety Week, an annual community awareness week held in Australia and New Zealand, designed to engage the community in safe rail practices.
Rail Safety Week sees rail operators, police, governments and community organisations unite by organising various activities such as media events, safety demonstrations, hosting webinars and virtual events, along with engaging with schools and community groups to raise awareness on the importance of rail safety.
To celebrate Rail Safety Week, Arc Infrastructure is offering the opportunity for primary schools to enter the draw and win a free excursion (valued at $698.50) with our community partner, the Constable Care Safety School.
As the manager of the State’s freight rail network, Arc Infrastructure is committed to ensuring the safety of the communities that surround our network.
Last year, Arc celebrated Rail Safety Week by inviting primary schools to express their interest in taking their students to the Constable Care Safety School in Maylands for children to explore real-life transport risks and practice road, rail, pedestrian, bike and public transport safety skills in a safe, realistic urban environment.
This year, Arc will be offering 15 free excursions.
To support regional primary schools participating in the competition, the 2023 Rail Safety Week Giveaway will cover transportation for a select number of WA regional schools near the freight rail network.
Constable Care is also generously offering all schools who enter $100 off their next excursion booking to the Safety School.
Arc Infrastructure CEO Murray Cook expressed his thanks to the many schools that entered the Rail Safety Week 2022 giveaway and encouraged schools to express their interest this year.
“We appreciate everyone helping Arc Infrastructure and the Constable Care Foundation raise awareness on the importance of rail safety, and thank all the schools who entered.
“We’re proud to make our 2023 Rail Safety Week giveaway even bigger and better than last year, and offer more opportunities for schools to win, with a focus on including regional communities,” Mr Cook said.
School administrators and teachers are invited to express their interest to go into the draw to win a free school excursion by completing this entry form by Friday, 4 August 2023. Winners will be announced on Monday, 14 August 2023.
Fatalities, incidents and near misses on the network can cause severe and lasting trauma to the rail employees involved, and the majority of these incidents can be avoided.
During Rail Safety Week we are also taking the opportunity to remind the community to be alert and safe around rail:
-
Expect the unexpected. Watch out for trains.
-
Trains operate 24/7, 365 days a year.
-
Trains can’t swerve or stop quickly.
-
Always obey level crossing signs and signals.
-
Always check for trains in both directions.
