Arc Infrastructure recognises National Reconciliation Week, which is running from 27 May to 3 June 2024.
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
National Reconciliation Week encourages us all to take action and reflect on issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Everyone has a responsibility in progressing reconciliation in Western Australia.
In Boorloo (Perth) some employees took part in the Walk for Reconciliation 2024, presented by Reconciliation WA.
The Walk took place in Langley Park, commencing with a Welcome to Country and multiple Smoking Ceremony fire pits for the walker to pass through. Together, Arc walked alongside the bilya (river) through the park and ended in solidarity at the Supreme Court Gardens to enjoy the guest performers.
General Manager Works Delivery and Executive sponsor of the Aboriginal Engagement initiative Dan Ellis said Arc’s people across the network had been encouraged to participate in a local event organised by Reconciliation WA or find another way to mark the special occasion.
“We suggested our workforce support an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander business, register for a virtual workshop, research local First Nations placenames, histories, cultures, current affairs and advocacy, or read the Uluru Statement from the Heart,” said Dan.
“The Walk for Reconciliation was a wonderful celebration of Noongar culture and timely given the work currently underway at Arc. We look forward to other opportunities to join the community in advocating for reconciliation as a business.”
Arc’s Aboriginal Engagement initiative is helping Arc develop our vision for reconciliation and consider how we can contribute to reconciliation as a business.
Our first Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan was published during National NAIDOC Week in 2023.
The business is currently planning to attend and host NAIDOC Week events across our metro and regional depots again this year.
NAIDOC Week is held across the country from 7-14 July 2024 and this year’s NAIDOC Week theme is Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud.
The theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
