Arc Infrastructure has recently completed preparations at Yarra Yarra Lake in the Mid West for the upcoming intensive period of work on the Agricultural Supply Chain Improvement (ASCI) Program.
At Yarra Yarra Lake, the unique bridge configuration meant scaffolding and a platform were required to enable sleepers and re-railing to be completed.
With the wet season approaching it was decided the scaffolding and working at height platforms needed to be installed well ahead of the works to avoid installation when the water is at a higher level.
The Arc team worked with the Southern Yamatji Regional Corporation to determine the timing of the installation, as working during the wet period had a higher risk of disturbance to the important heritage site at Yarra Yarra Lake.
During the installation two Heritage Monitors were on site monitoring activities.
Project Delivery Lead Jerry Seerungum said everything had gone smoothly and was now in place for works during the extended shut period.
“We are grateful for the involvement of the Southern Yamatji Regional Corporation to enable us to undertake this critical installation which will enable our team to work safely on the ASCI project,” Jerry said.
Heritage Specialist Craig Deetlefs said the Heritage Monitors had been pleased with the way the work was conducted and appreciated being involved directly on Country.
“A great reminder that heritage monitoring is about far more than compliance, it is about relationships, shared understanding and creating space for cultural knowledge to continue being passed on,” Craig said.
The Midland Railway (MR) line will be shut between June and September during an intensive works period when the line will be upgraded from 16 to 19 Tonne Axle Load, enabling longer, heavier grain trains to travel to Geraldton Port.
