Arc Infrastructure is pleased to announce that construction is underway on the new Kenwick Intermodal Terminal (IMT).

Highway Construction has been appointed to build the IMT which is due to be completed in mid-2024.

The Kenwick IMT is being developed within Arc’s Kenwick Rail Freight Facility and will connect to the adjacent Roe Highway Logistics Park (RHLP). It is well connected to the industrial warehouse precinct of Welshpool and Kewdale, with RAV7 trucking access for last mile deliveries.

The project was made possible through an agreement with the Federal and State Governments, who will contribute $10 million towards the $25 million project.

Arc has signed an operating licence with Intermodal Group to operate the IMT once it is complete.

Arc Infrastructure Chief Executive Officer Murray Cook said the project would support the State Government’s policy of increasing the modal share of rail.

“As a new inland terminal, the Kenwick IMT will play an important role in increasing container rail volumes in the short term through North Quay Rail Terminal and for the future Westport, to enhance the effectiveness of WA’s metropolitan rail freight supply chain.

“We thank the Federal and State Governments for their support of the project and look forward to working together to achieve our shared goal of moving more freight on rail,” Mr Cook said.

The Kenwick IMT will have a throughput capacity of 200,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) including an empty container park.
Intermodal Group Vice President Adam Lebihan sees great potential for the Kenwick IMT site in coming years.

“The Kenwick IMT opens a new customer base for the Intermodal Group which will continue to grow once operations commence. We are looking forward to introducing a dedicated rail fleet, with 100 TEU capacity per service, to be operated by Watco Australia,” Mr Lebihan said.
