Arc Infrastructure is making changes to our system of field telephones, and we want your feedback.
A number of field telephones across the network will have been flagged for decommissioning as part of a program to upgrade the communication network.
As part of the overarching communication upgrade, the technology which supports our existing field phones will be replaced. A comprehensive study was performed in collaboration with the Regional Offices which concluded that of the 525 Field Telephones currently on record, 286 Field Telephones across the Arc network no longer serve their purpose.
Please review this list here.
For the locations where field telephones are proposed for decommissioning, alternative communication systems are already available as the primary and secondary form of communication that complies with regulatory requirements, including safety standards.
Three types of communication network/system are currently in place to serve as the replacement for the Field Telephone installations:
- VHF and UHF two-way radio networks which covers 100% of the CTC territory lines providing voice communications to/from the respective Network Controller.
- The Telecommunications Carriers Telstra, Optus and Vodaphone which are widely utilised for business and private/personal use.
- Mobile satellite telephone services to serve as a backup in areas where the mobile phone networks and mobile radio networks do not provide coverage.
All the proposed changes in this notification are in line with all relevant regulations and captured in the latest version of the Network Safeworking Rules and Procedures.
For questions or to provide feedback on the proposed decommissioning, please contact communications@arcinfra.com.
