Arc Infrastructure has been proud to be a member of the joint feasibility study led by Talison Lithium and the South West Development Commission to investigate the feasibility of recommissioning the 82km Greenbushes to Bunbury railway.

Arc has been working with Talison Lithium on this project since 2018 in its various forms, and we have been strongly committed to bringing lithium onto rail and removing significant truck volumes from South Western Highway.

Talison announced today, “After consulting with industry, community, and government stakeholders, Talison Lithium has determined that implementing a safe and efficient mixed road-and-rail transport supply chain using the Greenbushes-to-Bunbury rail line is not economically feasible at this time.”

We are disappointed in the outcome of this feasibility study, and it is not the outcome we were hoping for.

We remain committed to investing in the upgrade of the Greenbushes to Bunbury railway to facilitate the task and hopeful that the project may proceed in some form in the future, should prevailing conditions change.

Arc Infrastructure Chief Executive Officer Stephanie Unwin said Arc remained focused on growing tonnes on rail.

“We are deeply committed to growing tonnes on rail across our network and working with new customers to move their tasks on rail.

“We know that rail delivers significant community and environmental benefits, including reduced carbon emissions and improved road safety.

“We wish to thank Talison Lithium and the South West Development Commission for undertaking this feasibility study, and we also thank the State Government for their collaboration and funding contribution,” Stephanie said.
