Arc Infrastructure was pleased to see the opening of the Frenchman Bay Road bridge over rail in April as part of the Federal and State Government’s Albany Ring Road project.
The Albany Ring Road project is the biggest road project ever undertaken in the Great Southern region.
Upon completion of the entire project, it will deliver a free-flowing, 11-kilometre connection between Albany Highway and Princess Royal Drive, including three grade-separated interchanges at Albany Highway, South Coast Highway and Frenchman Bay Road.
The project involved the construction of significant transport infrastructure in the vicinity of the operational freight railway, affecting level crossings, pedestrian crossings, and introducing a new road bridge over rail, requiring Arc to work closely with Main Roads WA.
The Third Party Projects team has been involved in the project since the early design phases, providing Main Roads WA with rail related requirements to help inform the design and construction of infrastructure interfacing with the railway.
Third Party Projects Lead Justin Rapp said the team has been responsible for maintaining the relationship with Main Roads WA during construction to ensure works were delivered safely and with minimal impact on rail operations.
“We conducted design reviews and provided input into the construction methodology throughout the early phases of the project.
“Now in the latter stages of the project, the Third Party team continues to offer guidance and necessary specifications to assist Main Roads WA with the delivery of an additional pedestrian crossing at the site of Roundhay Street,” Justin said.
The new Frenchman Bay Road bridge over rail will facilitate the removal of five level crossings, and an additional pedestrian crossing.
The removal of these level crossings greatly reduces the risk profile of this part of the network by removing any interface between trains and other road users.
Arc is currently planning the removal of the crossings and will be conducting these works on behalf of Main Roads WA in the second half of 2024.
The Third Party Projects team also continues to provide technical input into other key projects being undertaken by the WA State Government and various local government authorities, including the Midland Station Redevelopment and Thornlie Cockburn Link project.
